A plastic disaster for our oceans

Marine debris found off South Florida’s beaches has been recycled into art meant to show how plastic is hurting the marine life that the giant sculptures represent.

Over 1,000 pounds of trash and other reclaimed plastics went into creating the 10-piece exhibit called “Free Our Seas Flotsam Fauna,” which opens May 28 at Flamingo Gardens, 3750 S. Flamingo Road in Davie. The display will be open to the public through September, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Expect info about our oceans, mangroves and the Everglades along with potential solutions to abating the pollution that threatens their existence.

A special workshop takes place on June 18-19, featuring talks about animals impacted by habitat loss, pollution and climate change.
