There’s scant time to enter holiday boat parades

Boat parades get ready to set sail in S. Florida

There’s good news and the not-so-good.

Procrastinators who planned to enter the Pompano Beach’s holiday parade but didn’t by now have un- fortunately missed the boat.

Registration closed in early November with 60 craft signed up for the area’s oldest floating procession, according to Rhonda Bunker, parade chair. A waiting list is available in case anybody drops out.

“The changes that occurred, such as the move last year to Friday [from Sunday] nights played a huge factor, I believe,” said Bunker who also credits the early closeout to sending out sign- up sheets to boaters last March.

Fort Lauderdale’s 12-mile Winterfest event was still taking applications, along with the Boca Raton Holiday Boat Parade, when Waterfront Times went to press before Thanksgiving.
